Nassau County DWI Defense Attorney- WILLIAM J. KEPHART, ESQ.
Prior to becoming a defense attorney, Mr. Kephart served as an Assistant District Attorney in Nassau County under the Hon. Denis Dillon from 1996 through 2000. During his time as an Assistant District Attorney, he prosecuted various violent felony offenses, white-collar offenses, vehicular offenses and lesser crimes, while also serving as the immigration liaison between the District Attorney’s Office and the Federal Government (formerly referred to as United States Immigration and Naturalization Service). Upon leaving the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, he formed a small partnership with two other former assistant district attorneys, and after several years formed his own law practice which has been based in Garden City since 2003.
Mr. Kephart specializes in the representation of individuals and corporations who have been charged with criminal offenses either on the state or federal level throughout Long Island, as well as, in the 5 boroughs of New York City, and counties north of New York City. Mr. Kephart has handled numerous high-profile cases throughout the NY metropolitan area, and routinely is in court defending all types of criminal cases. Mr. Kephart is also affiliated with a law firm that regularly handles personal injury matters, and a second law firm that handles matrimonial and family court matters, so as to be able to better serve his clients in other areas other than what he specializes in.
Mr. Kephart has appeared on Court TV numerous times as a guest commentator, has lectured at the Nassau County Bar Association, has spoken to various community groups, and was honored in June, 2003 by the Nassau County Bar Association for his representation of the indigent and presented with the Assigned Counsel award for that year. Mr. Kephart is the current Vice Chairman of the Criminal Law and Procedure Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association, a position which he has held for the past three years. He is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association since his time in the District Attorney’s Office, a member of the New York State Defender Association, and a member of the Former Assistant District Attorney’s Association (FADA) of Nassau County. Mr. Kephart has previously done Police Benevolent Association (PBA) work, in which he represented police officers of the New York City Police Department in their internal hearings, as well as, in hearings at the Civilian Complaint Review Board that were brought against police officers. Presently, he assists in representing officers in various villages throughout Long Island, in addition, to his day to day practice. In addition, Mr. Kephart has assisted with various Moot Court competitions in assisting the law students of local schools in their preparation for trial competitions. Mr. Kephart has also been sought by the local media for his expertise regarding issues of criminal law and has been quoted in various articles over the years.
